An Amazing CD - I just wish it would get REMASTERED February 29, 2008 NinjahBOOKS Reviews (New York City, NY, USA) It's about this that this CD - and a lot of others in Neil's back-catalog, were given the re-mastering treatment. This version has been on the shelves for years, and was one of those early, poor-quality mastering jobs done in order to rush back-catalog titles to market so people could replace their cassettes, LPs and worn out 8-tracks. To listen to this CD, for me, is a spiritual experience. So many amazing, heartfelt tracks in this collection. Do yourself a favor- buy this cheap, fall in love with it, and then pray for a proper-quality master re-release. Then buy that and live happily ever after. Tell a FRIEND!
My favorite! February 4, 2007 Puffrider (Wisconsin, United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my favorite Neil Diamond CD of all time. It's just classic! I like every single song. Neil Diamond is brilliant!

I grew up listening to "Moods" on my dad's 8-track player, and it moved me in a big way. I figured out later it was the heavy emotional undercurrent that runs through the album. Yes, even the sing-song "Song Sung Blue," which is ultimately cheery, is about trying to beat back the blues. Besides the hits and semi-hits, there are some amazingly creative and well-written folk-blues songs here that you've probably never heard of, and almost all carry the air of introspection. And every one is beautiful in its own (often simple) way. Okay, maybe "Porcupine Pie" is downright silly, but it's super-catchy and I give him credit for putting it on the album. Some will probably fault "Moods" for being a big maudlin in spots. That's been Neil's achilles heel throughout his career, yet his over-the-top approach is also what has energized his best songs (and some of his worst). Talk about brave: listen to his newest CD, the Rick Rubin-produced "12 Songs," and you'll hear the raw vulnerabilities of an aging pop star. All the great emotion of "Moods," but unfortunately not as solid a song list. Every song on "Moods" is original, catchy, and moving in its own way. And a few can bring a tear to your eye if you're in just the right mood. ("Captain Sunshine" kills me every time.) Recently I logged on to finally buy a CD to replace the cassette that replaced the album that replaced the 8-track, and I was shocked to see that you can get "Moods" for about 6 bucks! Seems to me that supply-and-demand has gone very wrong, but for you it's a great low-risk opportunity to discover this (dare I say it) *lost classic.* Thank you Neil, for your moods.

Great CD. It replaced our old worn-out LP. Nice to have Neil to sing for us once again.
Can you wear out a CD? March 23, 2002 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
If you are a Neil Diamond fan and you don't have this CD, get it! If you are just discovering Neil, start with this album! It is one of his best! "Song Sung Blue" and "Play Me" became major hits, but the other songs on here are like true gems as well. Especially "Cante Libre", "Gitchy Goomy" and "Walk on Water". And "Captain Sunshine" has become one of my favorite songs. There just isn't a bad song on this album! In a year or two I'll let you know the answer to the above question!
