I bitterly regret Horst Meisterfluscher February 5, 2006 Freestinker (St. Louis, MO) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bitterly regret the inclusion of the unforgivably homophobic Horst Meisterfluscher's review and his apparent unnending ignorance. The Ocean Blue is a cool band. Check 'em out. This CD is good as is most of their stuff. Perfect in about any mix because nothing sounds like them, mellow and inticing. Great stuff.
ocean blue fan on deserted island July 24, 2005 Liv (Phoenix, Arizona) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If I were on a deserted island and could only have ten CDs, one of them would be Beneath The Rhythm and Sound. This is truly one of my favorite CDs of all time. It is melodic, ethereal, and timeless. I will be listening to this CD when I'm an old woman. I love all their albums, but this one is probably my favorite. Emotions Ring is so good, it makes me want to cry.
Stylistic monotony never sounded so fab April 3, 2005 Horst Meisterfluscher 3 out of 14 found this review helpful
I bitterly regret the inclusion of the unforgivably faggy ICE SKATING AT NIGHT. It mars an otherwise perfect record. What differentiates The Ocean Blue from the usual buttload of sugarcrap powerpop is The OB's addiction to guitar-chord tension. That's what makes them fab: that guitar-chord tension. And I really don't mind their shamelessly overt plagiarism of Morrissey's la-la-la shtick.
This disc is so "Sublime". August 31, 2004 H3@+h (VT) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Too bad almost nobody has ever heard of these guys, but good for me. I actually like their self-titled album more, but this is nearly as great. This album has a very pleasing vibe, it's alt-pop, upbeat, mellow, and everything I like. The track "Sublime" was a minor hit, and is incredibly catchy. Other good songs are "Either Or", "Ice Skating At Night", and "Crash", even though I like them all. If you like that early 90's brit-pop sound at all, you should really like "Beneath The Rhythm & Sound". It'll give you "Peace Of Mind".
Glorious March 28, 2003 Celeste M. Harmer (Clifton Heights, PA United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you're looking for glorious music, look no further. TOB is, to use one of their song titles, sublime! There isn't one boring or bad track on this album; all the tracks work together to create a whole."Sublime" was their big hit in the early 90's, and it really sold me on the band. In the days when everyone was grunged-out, screaming, and shrieking their guitars, TOB offered quite, subtle, soothing music which made me think that there was beauty in the world after all. BTRAS is one of the few CD's I own that I can listen to without skipping tracks. Other songs on it that I highly recommend (even though they're all good) are "Crash" and "Emotions Ring." Glorious!!
