Amazon.com In an era when most old rock stars are left to recycle their greatest hits for megatours and MTV Unplugged, it's refreshing to know that Van Morrison still pours on all the originality and wit he had when he made Moondance. On Days Like This, Morrison continues his lifelong exploration of the human psyche, offering up highly entertaining and danceable (yes, danceable!) tunes about everything from love to manic depression. As always, Morrison's vocals rumble along through intelligent lyrics, plowing up a range of emotions almost too numerous to catalog. Needless to say, the sweet, soulful harmonies of Morrison's adroit backup singers and Pee Wee Ellis's fabulous horn arrangements serve as fabulous counterpoints to Van the Man's energetic and pointed performances. When all is said and done Morrison sums it up best in "Songwriter," a self-effacing ditty about the job he has done, and still does, so very well. --L.A. Smith

This one's a turkey August 29, 2008 Elden Fenison (Albany, OR United States) I have almost every album Van has done. I am a huge fan. If there is a turkey in the whole lot, this one is it.
Days Like This July 5, 2008 Laura Lazowski (Minnesota, USA) Van Morrison is my soul hero of music... and this is my favorite. The lyrics, the music and the feel is all there.

This is actually the record that mad me decide to like this guys music. I heard the 'best of' allready and that made me very curious. There's something on this record that makes me feel at ease and happy. Perfect Fit really puts a smile on my face. But the favorite track must be Ancient Highway. This is where Van really gets into it. Untill this day he didn't make a song like that anymore; which is a shame. The backing band on this cd is very tight. A very diverse record that I never get tired of.

This review refers to "Days Like This"(CD)..Van Morrison As a collector of Van Morrison Albums, I had to have this album. After reading the mixed reviews here, I was expecting something less then mediocre. However, and to my delight, I was once again swept away by Van's lulling voice, the great music and musicians to be found here. I've had it on my changer for the past couple of weeks, and there's no sign of it ever coming off! "Days Like This" has 12 tracks mixed for easy listening, romantic evenings and swaying to the music. Opening with "A Perfect Fit", with some wonderful horn arrangements, Van will then play "Russian Roulette" with your mind. Grab your honey for a nice slow dance in a beautiful duet with Shana Morrison, "You Don't Know Me". Another duet with Shana is the lovely "I'll Never Be Free". Although a 'mood' album, there were couple of the songs, that seemed too moody and a little out of place. "Underlying Depression", and "Melancholia" kind of bring you down after the others(my only reason for 4 stars instead of 5). Then "Days Like This"('When it's not always raining, when there's no one complaining...') and "In the Afternoon"('Wanna make, wanna make, wanna make, wanna make love to you..." get you right back in the mood. The CD(Exile Prod.) is a very good quality. The music sounds great on the stereo. A booklet is included with words to most of the songs. Check out the words to the very pensive "Ancient Highway". See buying info for complete list of tracks. The CD runs close to a nice hour of tunes for Van Morrison fans. "Baby, this could be the perfect fit..."(well, almost) Enjoy...Laurie
So Disappointing March 19, 2006 P. Townsend (NZ) 3 out of 9 found this review helpful
I love Van Morrison and have done so for years. Veedon Fleece, St Dominic's Preview, Into The Music, Moondance, Enlightenment. I can't imagine my life without these albums. I would love to rate this CD better, but it is just so disappointing. Apart from 'Days Like This' and 'Ancient Highway' the dreadful backing vocals and utter, desperate sense of making songs just for the sake of it pervades this tedious, embarrassing album. There is precious little of any worth at all. If you are new to Van Morrison, please listen to something else, or you are likely to miss out on truly wonderful, inspiring music.
