 Amazing...J. Mascis is a genius May 7, 2007

I'm a huge Dinosaur Jr. fan, and I love all their albums. Green Mind is, I believe, their best album. You may hate it for not being You're Living All Over Me, or because J. Mascis took complete control over the band, or because it was their first major-label record (i.e. you think they "sold out"), etc. etc. I don't get you people. Green Mind's flow is terrific--I think it flows much better than their earlier records (but don't get me wrong--I own all of their albums and love all of them). J. Mascis has some crazy skills on a guitar, his songwriting never gets old, and his voice works PERFECTLY for the album's style. I think Green Mind is one of the most underrated, overlooked albums of the 90's, and I just can't figure out why. Now that you can get it for super cheap, I beg of you to buy it.
If you have other Dino Jr. albums and don't own this, you're a disgrace (just kidding haha). If you like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc., or even the Foo Fighters (by the way, Dave Grohl lists/has listed on his band's Myspace that Dino Jr. was one of the Foo Fighters' influences), then I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you pick up this album and listen to Dino Jr. for the first time.
Highlights: my favorites are "The Wagon," "Puke + Cry," "Blowing It," "How'd You Pin That One on Me," "I Live for that Look," "Water," and "Muck"--but seriously, they're all good.
a severly underated album January 4, 2007
As an advid Dinosaur Jr fan, I would have to say that this is by far my favorite album by them, which is a shame since its thier most overlooked one too. My first Dinosaur cd that I bought was Where you Been, which I thought was an alright mediocre album. Soon after that tho, I picked up the Green Mind album which I thought was vastly supperior compared to Where you Been. The albums opening track "The Wagon" is not only one of my fave Dinosaur songs but one of my favorite songs ever! "Puke+Cry", "Muck", and "How you'd pin that one on me" are very cool awesome songs as well. The last few songs on the album all close it out very nicely, as well as the nice 3 bonus tracks "Hot Burrito#2", "Turnip Farm", and "forget it" as nice additions to the reissue.
I know that this was the first album after the departure of Lou Barlow, but still J and Murph still managed to put together a very solid album.
Despite that album in my opionion does suffer from a few lackluster tracks ie "blowing it" and "water", it is still a very solid album that begins and closes with very nice well written and produced tracks.
If you dont have this cd and the next time you see it at the store, Buy it immediatly! this fine album is so worth your time and money. Trust me.

I can't believe I almost forgot about this album! Duh. It's been years since I had heard this, and then actually heard "The Wagon" on the radio(?) and went, "Whoa!". So many bands have borrowed from J.Mascis' style on this album- it was really very different in the time when everything "grunge" was cool. AND- every song on this album is good, something you never get nowadays. I'm actually purchasing this CD (and that says alot) to replace my old cassette. haha

This is the one Dinosaur Jr. release I can't imagine anyone not liking. It's the beginning of the "new" phase of DJ, yet it still basically sounds like old DJ. "The Wagon" and "Puke + Cry" are both rockin' songs and a good start to the album, and I also really like "Flying Cloud". However it's the last half of the disc that really shines for me. "Water" is a catchy mid-tempo track, "Muck" is one of their best rock-outs ever, and "Thumb" is magical and mellow. Fans of either "Bug" or "Where You Been" should totally dig "Green Mind". If nothing else, the girl on the cover is smokin'.
