Radiohead's Best B-sides July 16, 2005 splitendsjustifythemeans (florida) After the difficult b-sides from Pyramid Song, and the semi-boring Cuttooth, I was afraid that all the great songs had made it onto the albums. Then these showed up. Life in a Glass House is the same version as appears on Amnesiac, only instead of the electronic sound at the start, there's a horn solo. I guess they wanted people to hear it, but it it's only about 10-20 seconds long. It's the other songs that make this a surprise. Worrywort has a keyboard line that somehow manages to evoke childhood Nintendo games, being underwater, happiness, and nervousness. The lyrics seem to revolve around trying to boost someone's confidence, and hearing Thom's voice sound comforting is wonderful. Fog starts off very quiet, and builds up. The tone here is to be very nervous (which makes a nice contrast). The bassline and out-of-control guitar solo at the end both seem to suggest that Radiohead could make incredible populist ear candy if they wanted to, but they seem to be able to make these highly catchy parts into something that becomes a private favorite. That seems like more of a gift to me. Get these as soon as you can.
It IS such a beautiful day!! October 5, 2002 Alysia Melisaratos (ny...ny) I am pretty much the radiohead guru and love everything they put out, so I AM somewhat biased...BUT this single is amazing. If you prefer the newer radiohead with their digital mastery and the sounds of thom's melodic and soothing voice you will love the song's "Fog," also known as "Baby alligators in the sewers," and "Worrywort." Both not only relaxing, but also just altogether amazing songs/masterpieces. The boys have done it again.
Add this to your collection! June 16, 2002 John Bostic (Fredericksburg, Va. USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The massive Kid A sessions, which spawned Amnesiac and a nice collection of b-sides, truly show how great this band can be. The quality of these b-sides are not typical of the throw away mentality one usually associates with outtakes, instead one has to wonder just what they were thinking when choosing 'Hunting Bears' for album release and then putting beautiful work like 'Fog' out on single only... As far as I know, the complete b-side/unreleased collection for this session are as follows: The Amazing Sounds Of Orgy (Pyramid Song) - my fave. Trans-Atlantic Drawl (Pyramid Song) Kinetic (Pyramid Song) - my next fave. Worry Wart (Knives Out) Fog (Knives Out) Cuttooth (Knives Out) Life In A Glasshouse (full length- Knives Out) + more tracks rumored to be out there on the net.
