Overlooked Songs February 24, 2008 J. Terenzio (Illinois) Worrywort and Fog are two very good and overlooked songs. Much better than most other Radiohead b-sides I've heard. Very mellow.
A little overpriced, but... October 15, 2004 unmeel (Edison) If you're a big Radiohead fan, like me, you'll want to get this single, if only for Fog (one of their best b-sides ever, and with Radiohead that means its truly excellent). Fog is a bass driven song with cool percussion effects that sound like a dark, swampy fog. The song builds to a superbly understated climax after building gently on layers of percussion and hints of melody. Worrywort is another really great B-side, albeit a little underdeveloped. It sounds remarkably upbeat, and its as beautiful as you would expect. The song can only be described as sounding like bubbles underwater. Remarkable. So if you're willing to pay 13 bucks + shipping for 2 excellent tracks, then this single is for you. If not, then downloading them is probably a better idea. I bought this only to have my cd crack a couple of months later (from overexposure to cold), so that is just what I did.
A wholly different side of Radiohead... April 23, 2004 beatlebum I am not going to waste any breath on Knives Out since that song has been reviewed by hundreds of people along with the other tracks on Amnesiac. No, it's the b-sides what I'm here for. The 4-minute wonder that is called Fog, or alternately, Alligators in New York Sewers, is worth the price of the cd alone. However, it's the other track that really does it for me. Worrywort...my oh my, what a song. The combination of airy and delicate synths and Thom's breathy vocals demands repeated listens. Truly, it must be one of the most optimistic songs that Radiohead has ever written. Though it's understandable why it has been left off Amnesiac, it's still a pity that not many people know about this song, since the band is best known for wallowing in misery. And when Thom murmurs 'such a beautiful day', you know that your day has been made.
Radiohead at their most creative February 11, 2004 This single contains all the tracks from the two 'Knives Out' singles released in the US and elsewhere. It doesn't, however, have the superb 'Pyramid Song' video found on one of the other 'Knives Out' singles.Radiohead's 'Kid A' and 'Amnesiac' era work is inarguably their most creative and inventive, and this single isn't a bad reflection of this. If you're a Radiohead fan, you'll be getting your money's worth with tracks like 'Cuttooth' and 'Fog', which are certainly worth the purchase. The 'Pyramid Song' single, however, is their best from this period, so if you're tight and only want to purchase one of them, go with that. Most Radiohead fans will agree, though, that both are worth having. As with all post-bends Radiohead material, it grows on you the more you listen. Overall an enjoyable, worthwhile purchase, for anyone who enjoyed Radiohead's 'Kid A'\'Amnesiac' era work, provided you don't already have the other two 'Knives Out' singles.
fog... get fog December 31, 2003 Ben Scheim (Saratoga Springs, NY United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I know radiohead's whole singles scheme is frustrating and off-putting in terms of actually being able to obtain all of their material, but perhaps our frustrations will win out with a healthy b-sides album in the future. In the meantime, I just have to add a note on this single... it's really fantastic. I got it long ago but just happened to be looking through these pages today and realized I must comment on how wonderful the b-side "Fog" truly is. "Worrywort" is a solid b-side, though definitely that to me, but "Fog"... my oh my. I suppose I can understand why they couldn't sequence it into Kid A or Amnesiac but it's a truly phenomenal song. In light of the three b-sides on the Pyramid Song single, the two on the Knives Out single blow them away... but get it if only for "Fog".
