| Editorial Reviews:
Album Description O.A.R. has come to stand for authentic Rock music that reflects the collective triumphs and tragedies we all experience is this world: Real people making real music that resounds deeply with their fans. The songs on this album showcase every facet of the band and it's musical tastes which led to calling the album 'All Sides'. The radio friendly first single, 'Shattered', produced by Matt Wallace (Maroon 5), with additional production by Rob Cavallo (Green Day) lands at radio Mid June as the band kicks off their three month long 'All Sides' Summer Tour.

O.A.R. - All Sides September 5, 2008 S. D. Mason (Greenville, NC) All Sides (2008, Atlantic) O.A.R.'s fifth studio album (eighth overall album). ***1/2 You have to admire O.A.R. Not many jam bands are capable of making quality studio albums, and even fewer have been able to do it once. Like all jam bands, the studio stuff isn't always a great as their live albums, and neither compares to the actual experience (even if you don't like the style) of actually being at a concert. Still, for those who don't have the means to make it to a concert or don't want to listen to the mindless whirlings of live albums, All Sides is a suitable companion. O.A.R. isn't an original band in any sense of the word. All jam bands have to have the same certain elements, and O.A.R. borrows from Dave Matthews generously, but unlike their contemporaries - or influences, for that matter - they're able to make songs that are begging to be fleshed out into concise four minute bursts. All Sides is overflowing with anthemic rock, from the blast of the opener "This Town," or the stuttering "Living in the End." And, of course, there are the random but expected reggae-inspired bits such as "What is Mine." But there are more heartfelt moments, such as DMB-heavy (and even U2, who would have thought?) "Whatever Happened," and while it serves fantastically as a radio-friendly single, it could easily be torn wide open into a stomping fifteen-minute opus. That's what's great about All Sides, the songs sound fine the way they are, but for fans, when they hit the stage with them, it'll be a grand affair. In the end, All Sides is a tad too much, with several songs blending together in the middle of the album. Certainly all of it is fun, but few cuts are very memorable. The ones that are, though, should be cherished. (Whatever Happened, On My Way)
All Sides is just that, all sides of OAR September 5, 2008 LAL I understand why some fans are angry that OAR isn't making the same music as they were 10 years ago. Well, sorry to break it to you, but these guys are only human. They have to experimanet and do what they want, not just play the same exact styles their whole lives. So give them a break, I personally love the new stuff and the old stuff. OAR rules!
Been listening since the 90's...... September 2, 2008 cp0861 (Maryland) ......and this band has totally changed....for the worse, imo. i started listening to O.A.R. in college....probably about 10 years ago now. i've been to numerous concerts...i own every cd they have ever put out....they've been my favorite band for about 8-9 years. what they have evolved into just isn't for me......their music has become way over the top....too poppy....too soft....barely sounds like the O.A.R. that I'm familar with. It's been a gradual decline imo....last couple albums have been less and less impressive....and they just dove off of the cliff with this one. I hate to say it, but it seems like they are more concerned with putting out radio-friendly crap that teenie boppers will run out and download. Honestly, I would call this album bubble gum..... And for all of those people who say that O.A.R. is merely showing their versatility and showing different sides - that's crap. It's obvious that their sound has completely changed...completely....and if you don't recognize that, you haven't been listening to them for very long. If you want a true taste of O.A.R. - you need to go buy their live album - Any Time Now. GREAT ALBUM. I'll keep listening to O.A.R., but they're no longer my favorite.....I doubt I'll be bothering with any more concerts....time to move on.
Poignant both lyrically and musically - A Triumphant Album August 31, 2008 Blue Turtle (Tolland, CT) OAR's newest release is a poignant...filled with heart, hope, love, and beauty. Every song is unique and intelligent both musically and lyrically. The song that hit me most was "War Song". Not only does it avoid the writer's point of view on the war...or any war...it has the writer speaking from the heart of a soldier. I do not know how they put in to words what a soldier must feel during war, during separation....doing their duty, but they did it. I literally stopped and cried at the perfect marriage of lyrics and music...thank you OAR for avoiding the arguments on the war and giving us a gem of a song.
Had Potential August 28, 2008 M. Martinez (Chicago, Il) I absolutely love O.A.R. from back from the college days but it seems as if they have gotten away from what made them unique. Shattered like most people in the U.S. know that song is awesome!! But it is as if they are trying to be more alternative when before they really had no genre. To me too much guitar and not enough other instruments of reggae beats. I would have to say the cd was ok.
