Such is "a mediocre" Life October 8, 2003 Eve Nevarre (Portland, OR United States) Once a Kerosene Dream fan, always a Kerosene Dream fan, but I must confess to being a little disappointed in Such Is Life. The band's sound is a little more refined in this album and it is a bit more "produced" but the quality of the music does not live up to From the Sundown Sky. "C'est La Vie" and "Pictures" are great songs that I could listen to time and again, and "Summer Days" is a fun track reminiscent of From the Sundown Sky. The rest of the tracks are pretty mediocre and I have to be truthful that track 3, "Wagon Wheel" is downright awful both musically and especially lyrically. It is a hard song to listen to. Fortunately, the album closes with "Long Goodbyes" which is a great track and allows 'KD' to redeem themselves. By the time you get to the album's end the bad taste of "Wagon Wheel" is gone and you're left feeling that Such is Life is a pretty decent album but it just doesn't live up to From the Sundown Sky. I hope the boys of Kerosene Dream keep at it but try a little harder next time around.
Great addition to your cd collection! October 28, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Aaah... now this is music! Harmony, great lyrics and hoppin' tunes! Music with intelligence and talent. They've added some definite talent with this last album - check out the guitar! These guys are great, hope to catch them live sometime.
Super CD March 26, 2000 Chris Weinstein (Seattle, WA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Stumbled across the band while strolling the grounds at Seattle's Bumbershoot 99. Had to stay and listen to the whole set and I'm hooked now.
They just keep getting better.... December 8, 1999 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have to admit, I didn't think they could top their last release (Sundown Sky), but they have! Such is Life is fantastic. The songs are mature, tight and hoppin'! The intelligent lyrics mingle with great melodies, making this their best effort yet. I am buying copies for all my friends! My only complaint is that I was left wanting more.... Maybe their next album will be a double disc? We can only hope. My recommendation: get this cd and catch a band on the rise!
