I've viewed this film three times and each time I find it more powerful. You really can't say what it's about and without watering down the impact that the story weaves by connecting all the parts of its whole. The performances are masterful, the subject matter grisly and the movie mesmerizing.

This is not an action movie.
This is not a crime drama.
It may be billed as such, but this is a misnomer. Please do not view this as an action thriller.
This is a study about humanity, human nature, morality, pursuit of wealth and the means by which people pursue it..................
While the main character is pretty simple (he's a sociopath), it does not detract from the validity of some of the questions this movie raises.
Why are we so intent on killing ourselves? It has always been this way!
Is it in our nature to kill ourselves?
Are we doomed to this?
If Yuri doesn't sell the guns, someone else will. Does this absolve Yuri of his moral obligation?
Are guns bad by nature?
Is there any place in the world for guns?
How could we possibly ever stop this?
Do we have an obligation to try?
Is one man's freedom fighter another man's murderous zealot? (President of Liberia).
Why is Africa so fu#@ed up?
Why did I LOVE this movie?
1. All of the above
2. Nick Cage's BEST performance, bar none.
3. Fantastic direction.
4. Fantastic script.
5. Covers an issue that most people don't even consider.
6. Given the subject matter, the actual violence was kept to a minimum and was not done for glory of violence.
7. Violence was not glorified, but vilified. Graphic, but done to drive home a poinjt and leave an impression about the subject of this movie.

Music supervisor John Bissell (Hearts in Atlantis, Ladder 49) tapped Ariana Morgenstern as music consultant for the film. (You may know her from her NPR radio show "Sounds Eclectic")
Many of the song choices early in the film were painfully derivative. "Young American" was a creative choice in Silence of the Lambs, but its tired now... Same with "For What It's Worth"... brilliant choice in Forest Gump, cliche now. But, later you can see Morgenstern's influence with the more unusual offerings: Coyita by Gustavo Santolalla, La Vie en Rose sung by Grace Jones and the Volga Boatmen's Song.
What sent me searching for the soundtrack, however was a piece that was reprised in the credit sequence. The track with African-sounding vocals was Yakar Diamm (performed by Brazillian singer Ceu) and is included on this album.
With as much music as they packed in this film in addition to the score, I thought for sure there would be a 'music from the film' release. Since many of you may be looking for the music not found on the soundtrack, I offer this list from the credits:

I just could not sleep knowing that someone has attributed this song to a TV show. It is not "from" west wing. It may have been used in west wing, as it was in Shrek & Lord of War & God knows what else since Leonard Cohen wrote it. Otherwise, good soundtrack

does anyone have the list of songs from teh movie? im looking for one in particular, the one which plays during he scene where he buys out the hotel for the fake hoto shoot.. its a lounge-ish kind of song
