A decent balladJuly 7, 2000 It's good that she trying new things instead of the same bull that's out there. Mary J. is not a balladeer either!

Please save your money. Atlantic decided not to release these remixes in the US and the UK -and there's good reason behind it; the song is mediocre and the mixes are disappointing. I was hoping for re-recorded vocals (a la Mariah Carey or indeed like Jody's work on the "Off the hook" mixes) to really breathe some life into this boring ballad. Instead the ballad remains albeit backed with dance beats. Lenny B attempts to keep it underground with plonking keyboards. Roc & Presta keep it strictly simple. Dano and BK beef up the beats and score high BUT like a bad movie with good actors, they can't save this song with a good mix. The closest thing to Heaven here is the 95 North mix with restructured vocals, great overdubs with Jody's cries of "love" and "with you" chugging through from start to end, and uplifting keyboards taking this song to Diva! level. HOWEVER hardly an anthem or a club classic, this song stands as a lesson learned for Atlantic and other record companies. Jody is better than this. She deserves better direction. Why pin her with such an awful song? She does great soul but she does better pop/dance. Why didn't Atlantic release the fabulous MAW produced "I don't want you back"? -the highlight track on the failed "Flower". The same thing happened with Vanessa Williams. Why direct a Diva away from her audience and turn her into a second-rate AC balladeer? It makes me so angry. 1 step forward, 3 steps back.
